Of Upper and Under Worlds by RedWolfmoon Of Upper and Under Worlds by RedWolfmoon
In Mayan art on wall and cave murals, and on vases, the jaguar is sometimes shown in its naturally occurring color phases of black (The Jaguar God of the Underworld) or light (The Jaguar God of the Upper World). Both jaguar gods were regarded as necessary beings, without as much value judgment or labeling as to their aspects of good or evil. Both were associated with the Creator as his helpers in forming the world, and they helped promote the changes necessary for continuation of the world.

This is something I started working on a long while back, using some very beautiful photographs as Major reference. Had it not been for them to look from I would have been screwed. I'd give links, but I think the images have been taken down.

:iconsooper-deviant: Photographer of reference images.
:iconredwolfmoon: Who spent about collective hours of about 2weeks doing this one pic. My eyes are still bleeding and I'm still sleep deprived ^^;

This is totally gorgeous.
Amazing work with the facial anatomy and colors. You really got the subjects of the image down quite well. ^^ Beautifully simple.

Why thank you, took me forever to get it just right. My eyes bled.

I was glad I did a sort of impressionism sort of thing with the base coloring. Best idea I ever used.

Well... the bleeding feeling turned out to be tears from straining my eyes, but it felt like bleeding >.>

Hehe, now that you mention it, you're right. There really aren't that many Black Jaguars in Aztec or Mayan style.
Perhaps if I get some free time I will try to do another one. Never sure how much time I have these days.

I was able to find a few by some up and coming artists, but they are primarily anthro and... what looks like in crayon.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with that. To be honest, my sketchbooks are filled with paleolithic art, you know, Cave Paintings! I have always found them very relaxing and I enjoy doing them, they take more skill then one would think.
